Another Little League season in the books…
As Brian wrapped up his T-Ball season a week before, Lily and Trevor ended their softball/baseball seasons, too. Lily had a very good year, and did great at the plate. She had many multiple hit games. She liked to play catcher, but did play other positions in the field, too. The coaches get them playing all around to get a feel for everything. The coaches in the Sault Girls Softball league are all from the local high school team, so the kids get a solid and consistent amount of coaching. The league is run by the high school softball coach, and it really does a good job of building the girls skills. Lily had a lot of fun this summer, but because her games were during the day, it was so hot for her. Many times these girls toughed it out in 80-90 degree heat with the sun beating down on them. Lily also helped me coach Brian’s T-Ball team and did an excellent job. She had parents coming up to her and telling her how impressed they were with how she dealt with the younger kids. I am so proud of her, and am convinced there is nothing this girl is not capable of!

Trevor had a lot of fun this season, and for sure wants to play again next year. After taking a year off, he finally got his swing going and had some solid at-bats. He played catcher at the beginning of the season, but took over the third base slot for most of the year. He really likes the hot corner, and made some really good plays over there. I’m really proud of him for all of the work he puts into his playing. He hustles on the field and works very hard in practice. When I have extra time, he’s always up for playing catch or hitting a few baseballs. I really enjoyed being a coach on this team, too. This was a great bunch of kids and I hope they all come back and play next year. You might not believe that you can become attached to some kids after only a few months, but you definitely can. Especially with all of the unique personalities. Looking at the yellow unis, it’s hard not to compare them to the Bad News Bears…
Birthday Boy
Wow…It’s hard to believe that it’s been four years since we were blessed with Brian in our lives, and team M.I.B. became complete. Time seems to fly when you have kids, and this last whole decade has basically been a blur. This should be a fun year with Brian, as he’s finally old enough to start tee-ball. He’s excited about playing and going to all the baseball games over the summer. He talks about the Whitecaps and Beach Bums quite a bit. Happy birthday Bri!!!!!!

All Good Things…
Just like all good things, our Little League season has come to an end. I call it a success because we had a lot of fun, and the kids hopefully learned a lot. You can’t judge these things just on wins and losses, ya know. Bitter sweet also because this is the last game for me coaching two of my kids on the same team. Lily will be moving on to girls softball next season. She’s been the only girl in the league the last two seasons. No doubt she proved she can play with the big boys, though…she was one of my best players all season. Trevor is torn between soccer and baseball. All his friends play soccer, so it’s a tough decision for him. It will be too bad if he quits, though, as he really came on at the end of the season, going 4-5 in the last two games and making some nice plays in the field. Maybe I can bribe him with a new glove next year…I know, despicible me. Still two years away from the little one starting tee ball.

Gratuitous Kid Pics
Yeah, just showing them off here a bit. The Little League Season is coming to an end here at the end of the month, but we’ll still keep busy. Got our tickets for the Battle Creek Bombers on the 23rd, and the Whitecaps(Star Wars Night) on the 24th. Until then…

Little League…or California Penal League?

Well, the Sault Little League finally provided us with our team jerseys last week. Our lucky four-year run with blue came to a eye-clashing end. This year we pulled…orange. Makes me feel like I’m coaching in the Calinornia Penal League, or that maybe one of the local prisons should have been our sponsor. Oh, well, we’ll still have a lot of fun, and even though they’re not profesionals, they still don’t tank plays for personal reasons…
